Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is the third instalment in the "Baldur's Gate" series and it is the first in the "Dark Alliance" series. The game is not a continuation of the story from Baldur's Gate I and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal, it's a new story of its own. The game was released for the Playstation 2 (2001), XBox (2002), Gamecube (2002) and the Gameboy Advance (2004). The game was developed by Snowblind Studios and published by Interplay Entertainment. The gameplay bases itself around the 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons rules and the game takes place in the Forgotten Realms fantasy setting.

Reception[]

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance was well received by critics but fans were divided, fans of the Bhaalspawn saga were quite vocal about this particular instalment. They argued that this game would never be as complex as the original Baldur's gate games as console games at the time could not be as expansive as PC games. Many argued that the AD&D 2nd Edition rules were modified to work on this game. Fans also voiced their concerns about the lack of character creation, many argued that a lack of character creation would make the game less of a roleplaying game as previous Baldur's Gate titles allowed a broad range of character customization, whereas this game did not. For many reasons fans do not consider Dark Alliance a part of the original BG game set (the Bhaalspawn saga).
