Boots of Avoidance, also named Senses of the Cat, are a pair of boots which is magically enchanted in deflecting projectiles and aiding the user in avoiding them. It offers +5 armor class bonus against missiles and is one of the few items that provides defense against missiles and can be worn by anyone. This item appears in Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and it will also appear in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition.

In Baldur's Gate, these boots are gained when the assassin Nimbul fails at his attempt to kill the group at the start of chapter three. In the Enhanced Edition, another pair of these boots can be acquired if Meklin is killed.

In Baldur's Gate II, a pair of these boots are dropped by Reti, one of the kidnappers who buried Tirdir.

These boots and Boots of Phasing are among the only boots that give a boost to AC or AC modifiers.

In-game description

Boots of avoidance: 'Senses of the Cat'. The magic of these boots was specially designed to detect incoming missiles and aid the wearer in avoiding them. They were originally commisioned by the instructor of an archery academy, who had tired of suffering 'accidents' at the hands of inexperienced students.
