Dire Wolves are somewhat common enemies found in woodland areas of the Sword Coast.

Description[]

They are more dangerous than ordinary wolves or worgs but not as dangerous as dread wolves. They are sometimes found in groups, but they are more likely to travel alone than ordinary wolves. They have no special abilities, but can be dangerous to low-level parties.

Gameplay[]

In melee, their attack is considered a +1 magical and enchanted weapon that deals 1d8 piercing damage, (adjusted for Strength bonus in Shadows of Amn LOADCNTR00004 Icon SoABaldur's Gate II:

Trivia[]

  • The offical website for the original game, now archived, had – in addition to some combat-related statistics – the following information about dire wolves:[3]

The dire wolf is an ancestor of the modern species. Though larger in size, they are otherwise similar to their descendants.

The size was given as 7 to 12 feet.
