Draconis was Abazigal's son and, like him, he was a dragon which could take the form of a human. Unlike Abazigal, though, Draconis was a brown dragon whereas Abazigal was a blue dragon. Whilst he was in human form, he was a mage.

Throne of Bhaal[]

In Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, Draconis is outside the entrance of Abazigal's Lair. The player needs to kill Draconis and take his head to gain entrance to the lair.

Some of Draconis's favorite abilities are Greater Malison, Invisibility, Summon Invisible Stalker, Brown Dragon Acid Breath, Pierce Magic, Remove Magic, Wing Buffet and Cure Critical Wounds.

Strategy[]

  • Before the engagement, lay at least 4 spike traps a fair distance away from where the battle with his human form will occur, so as to avoid having them tripped by him or the Invisible Stalkers he summons.
  • Have a clone cast Protection From Magic on him at the beginning of the fight.
  • Once his human form is near death, he'll protect himself from magical weapons. Melf's Minute Meteors is one option for finishing him off.
  • Once he's in dragon form, lure him to the bed of traps set earlier and that should end the battle.
  • An alternative way to deal with his dragon form is tanking him with Planetar and finishing him with Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wiltings. First, summon Planetar to tank him; buff the Planetar with Chaotic Commands and Protection From Acid in advance if possible. Then have a mage cast on Draconis a Spell Trigger which stores enough number of Lower Resistance spells for removing his 55% Magic Resistance. It is advised that you also remove his Stoneskin and Protection from Magical Weapons with Breach so that the Planetar can do damage to him and also reduce his Saving Throw vs. Spell with Greater Malison so that he will be less likely to save against Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wiltings. And if you have Staff of the Woodlands, you can also summon a Shambling Mound to distract him. Finally, cast Time Stop and then finish him with as many Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wiltings as you can cast, or with at least two Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wiltings plus one Comet if Planetar have already done some damage to him.
  • If you decide to take the aforementioned alternative way, set Auto-Pause on Spell Cast can help you manage your timing of spellcasting more efficiently, especially during the effect of Time Stop.
  • His dragon form is also protected by Minor Spell Turning. Therefore if you cast direct-targeting spells such as Magic Missile and Flame Arrow on him, those spell would bounce back to yourself. So if you plan to use those spells, remove his Minor Spell Turning first. But if you take the aforementioned alternative way, using those direct-targeting spells is not really necessary.
