The Discipliner is an item which appears in Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, and the Enhanced Edition versions.

Description

Discipliner

Oft the bane of the careless mage, this ring was actually made to promote humility. Hergal Norin, a grand wizard of Narfell, would give the Discipliner to his most skilled, and most egotistical students. Through their bland arrogance they would mistake this ring as a reward for their 'obvious brilliance,' and not the punishment of a disapproving teacher.

Gameplay[]

Otherwise known as the Ring of Folly, this item is a cursed ring made to humiliate the most careless, skilled, and egotistical students of arcane magic. They see this as a 'gift' instead of punishment of a disapproving teacher. After this experience, the teacher hopes this student becomes humbler and more careful.

The wearer of the ring is afflicted with a Feeblemindedness effect, and intelligence and wisdom are set to 3. If the wearer isn't protected against these effects, then it can't be resisted.

As the item is flagged with a "cursed" field, a Remove Curse effect is required in order to take off the ring from the afflicted creature. Then, after that, the Feeblemindedness must be cured as well - in order to be able to manipulate the party members Inventory.

Wearing the ring during a solo game effectively causes a "game over", as the effect is permanent, and the character is held in place with no means of curing themselves.
