Full Plate Armor, also known as Full Plate Mail, is the best piece of non-enchanted armor that a warrior can use in terms of armor class, but its weight of 70 lb, will limit the available carry capacity of its wearer quite a lot and it requires 15 strength to wear it.
Description[]
“ | Full plate armor is the best armor a warrior can buy, both in appearance and protection. The perfectly fitted interlocking plates are specially angled to deflect arrows and blows, and the entire suit is carefully adorned with rich engraving and embossed detail. | ” |
Gameplay[]
- This is the single best armor in Baldur's Gate I, and some people use it all the way until the end of Throne of Bhaal because of its compatibility with items "of protection" like Improved Cloak of Protection. Its Armor Class is a game changer in early BG1, arguably making it the most urgent thing to buy for any party relying on a melee fighter.
- The Ankheg Plate Mail provides comparable AC vs slashing and crushing, can be equipped by Druids, weighs 45 lb less, has a much lower strength requirement of 8 and can be obtained for free in Nashkel. It is however not compatible with items "of protection" in original editions.
- Plate Mail doesn't hold a candle in this comparison.
