When first meeting Melicamp in the Red Canyons area, he is referred to as Melicamp the Chicken.
Melicamp is a mage in training who seems to be more keen on acquiring power, rather than learning how to properly use it.
After stealing equipment from his master Thalantyr, Melicamp attempted to cast a polymorph spell. The spell, unfortunately too complicated for his meager talents, turned him into a chicken. It is not revealed exactly what he intended to polymorph himself into, though obviously his intent was not to become a chicken.
