Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition[]

Recruitment[]

Rasaad is available from Chapter Two. Look for him just outside the Nashkel Inn, talk to him and invite him to join. Choosing an option to pay 10gp is the only way to trigger the cutscene when he knocks the pretentious Commoner unconscious, though you won't get the gold back, even when recruiting him.

Relationships[]

  • Viconia - Conflicts due to worshipping opposing deities. Viconia will try to convert Rasaad to Shar and discourage attacking the Dark Moon cult during Rasaad's companion quest, offering the protagonist a choice to dismiss Rasaad or to dismiss her. Rasaad remains steadfast in the worship of Selûne, and the protagonist can convince both characters to stay.

Quests[]

Gameplay[]

Rasaad is equipped with Moonlight Walkers when he joins the party. Those boots provide him with +2 AC and can only be used by him.

Biography[]

When asked about his past, RASAAD speaks sorrowfully about losing his brother, Gamaz, to the Shadow Thieves of Athkatla.
Both Rasaad and Gamaz grew up in the Monastery of the Moon in Calimshan after a Sun Soul monk rescued them from the streets of Calimport. There the young boys had barely eked out a living as pickpockets after their father died in the Arena Efreetum, where he had been consigned for his debts.
Despite the tragedy of his upbringing, Rasaad seems to have found peace in his order's teachings and their worship of Selûne, the Moonmaiden.

Dialogues[]

See? Such feats are easy when you learn to focus their energies through the light of Selûne.
Thank you for asking. My name is Rasaad. I am merely demonstrating some of the ways in which we Sun Soul monks reflect our spiritual light through physical activity.
A Sun Soul monk uses mind, body, and spirit in equal portions, but not to prove his martial superiority. Rather, he seeks to better the lives of those around him.
May I tell you more about the Order of the Sun Soul?
The Order of the Sun Soul was founded in the days of ancient Netheril. Then it was called the Brotherhood of the Sun, and its members dedicated themselves to the sun-god Amaunator.
With the fall of Netheril, Amaunator vanished. Some believe his power now resides in other gods. Different factions of my order turned to them: most to Lathander, some to Selûne, and a very few to Sune.
Of the inheritors of Amaunator's power, Selûne is the most ardent foe of spiritual darkness. After all, she is the bright opposite of Shar, the Mistress of the Night.
The Moonmaiden's reflected radiance inspires us to shine our inner light upon those in need. In the face of lies, we offer truth. In the face of hatred, we offer compassion.
As the full moon wanes and disappears, so too does our association come to an end. I pray that it will one day wax again, and we shall travel the realms side by side.

Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear[]

Recruitment[]

Though Rasaad can be spoken with during your time in Baldur's Gate in Chapter Seven, he will not join you due to wanting to investigate the disappearance of several servants of Selûne.

Rasaad becomes available from Chapter Eight, where he can be found at Coast Way Forest just south of your starting zone. This time he decides to join your march to the Dragonspear Castle to fight Caelar Argent's crusade.

Relationships[]

Biography[]

When asked about his past, Rasaad speaks sorrowfully about losing his brother, Gamaz, to the Shadow Thieves of Athkatla. He attempts to put that tragedy behind him through his worship of Selûne and his commitment to the Order of the Sun Soul. After the events of the iron crisis, Rasaad decided his calling was to serve those less fortunate than himself. The refugees entering Baldur's Gate required a great deal of assistance. Rasaad volunteered to run a refugee camp out of the old Iron Throne building. After some reflection, though, Rasaad decided that putting a stop to the crusade was an equally important goal, and set off for Dragonspear Castle to do so.

Dialogues[]

Sometimes it is necessary to take up arms for the greater good, but humility is the true mark of a hero.
You say Caelar Argent tried to kill you? But why?
Her followers seem to fall into two broad categories—mercenaries of various races hired to do her bidding, and those she has recruited to her cause. There is some dispute over which is more fearful.
Of the woman herself, most know of her through her followers' actions. Few have seen her personally. Those who do tend to side with her afterwards.
She is, by all accounts, a powerful personality, with a charisma that overwhelms her enemies as much as any sword she wields. Families have been torn apart because of her, brother turned against brother. A dire situation.
Would that I could tell you, my friend. I am grasping at shadows, perhaps real, perhaps imagined. I will not drag you into my darkness, not until I know the truth. When my path is clear, you will be the first to know. Until then...

Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition[]

Recruitment[]

Rasaad is available from Chapter 2. Travel to Trademeet, near the fountain at the center of town you'll witness a conflict between him and his fellow sun soul monks, walk away from the spot after the scene and he'll show up and talk to you.

When dismissed, he can be found at various locations in Trademeet's town square, for example just south of the fountain or just east of it.

Quests[]

Relationships[]

Gameplay[]

Rasaad is equipped with Moonlight Walkers and Glimmering Bands when he joins the party. The boots provide him with -2 AC bonus and the gloves boost his THAC0 by -2, both can only be used by him. Being a monk, Rasaad is a late bloomer, the Celestial Fury katana, with the ability to stun its opponents, is a good weapon choice for for him early on before he can stand up using his own fists, though the exact timing and weapon choices varies among players and their play styles.

Equipping him with the Scarlet Ninja-To in the offhand can be a good idea at the initial stages of Shadows of Amn. Come Throne of Bhaal, Angurvadal can be used instead. In any case, the Gauntlets of Crushing are one of the best items for him.

Rasaad will not tolerate the party attacking Adalon the Silver Dragon in her lair in the Underdark. He will leave the party for good if that happens.

Biography[]

A worshipper of the moon goddess Selûne, the taciturn monk Rasaad's life in service to the Sun Soul order ended in tragedy. He speaks of his brother, Gamaz, in reverent tones, even though Gamaz betrayed the Sun Soul by joining the Dark Moon sect, where he learned to worship Shar at the feet of a man named Alorgoth. Though it was his own hand that slew Gamaz, Rasaad holds Alorgoth responsible for his brother's death. He has committed himself to avenging Gamaz, and it's obvious there is little he won't sacrifice to achieve that goal.

Dialogues[]

You don't remember me? Rasaad yn Bashir? We fought side by side atop the Cloud Peaks.
I walk a new path—one I'm altogether uncomfortable with. I long for the clarity of purpose I once enjoyed.
Sometimes one must put aside one's heart to achieve a greater good.
There can be no happiness for me, not since my brother Gamaz's death.
The night used to cradle and comfort me. I and my brothers would bathe in the cool light of Selûne. But I fear those days are forever lost to me.
I wish I could see things that way, <CHARNAME>, I truly do. But given my current course, all I've left to me is revenge for my brother.
You saw me fighting my fellow Sun Soul monks?
I had little choice. I can no longer trust my brothers in the Sun Soul order.
A new cult has formed, based on the Dark Moon heresy: that my moon goddess Selûne and Shar, goddess of the night, are but facets of a single deity.
I seek to join this new cult.
I've come too far to turn back now, <CHARNAME>. I understand your decision and respect it. But I will do what I must, with or without you. Farewell.
