Plate Mail is the second most protective non-magical armor you can buy. It offers an armor class of 3 and nearly all plate mails in the games of Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition also offer a -3 bonus to armor class against slashing attacks.

The plate weighs 50 lbs, which means that a character with decent strength loses a quite amount of carrying capacity while wearing it. It requires at least 12 strength to wear plate mail and it can only be worn by fighters, paladins, rangers and clerics.

Description[]

Plate mail is a combination of chain armor with metal plates covering the vital areas such as the chest, abdomen and groin. Similar in construction to bronze plate mail, true plate mail comprises chain and leather.

The Black Pits[]

Sold by[]

Baldur's Gate[]

It is sold at the Friendly Arm Inn, the Thunderhammer Smithy, the Nashkel Store and at general stores in the city of Baldur's Gate. It's also worn as standard body armor by Flaming Fist Soldiers.

If you rest in Candlekeep before leaving with Gorion, a Candlekeep Watcher will spawn and tell you to get a room. Kill the watcher and he'll drop Plate Mail armor. Since you killed an innocent, your reputation will also go down significantly and the amount varies depending on your party's current reputation. Still, if you're open to exporting your character or party after your rest killing spree, you can get a lot of early game Plate Mail armors easily, and by starting a new game with an imported character, your party's reputation also resets! (Alleluia!)

Shadows of Amn[]

It's sold at the Adventurer's Mart, by Jayes, Ikert, Hes and other merchants.

Throne of Bhaal[]

It's sold at the Tankard Tree.
