Gift of Peace, also known as the Helmet of Defense in BG and BGII or Helm of Defense, is an enchanted helmet which provides protection against critical and magical attacks. It gives a +1 all saving throws bonus and +20% resistance to fire, cold and electric magic. Like all helmets, this can't be worn by bards, mages and thieves. This item appears in Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn.
In Baldur's Gate, this is the only item that provides elemental resistance to all kinds of magical elements and one of the few items providing elemental resistance. This helmet can be found in the area south of Candlekeep and north of the area with the lighthouse. It is gained when the party kills the Mage Ogre involved in the side quest with Shoal the Nereid.
In Baldur's Gate II, this and the Dragon Helm provide elemental resistance to fire, cold and electricity. The dragon helm offers 5% more resistance, but it offers no protection against critical hits and no saving throws. Gift of Peace can be found in the power core of the sphere at the hissing machine in the frozen area. It looks completely different in this game.

Prized for its noble origin as much as for its benefits to the wearer, this helm was originally intended to be a simple gift. There was no great crisis at hand, nor dangerous evil to be overthrown; just a wish for a friend to give a gift to another. It could just have easily been a good book or bottle of wine, but adventurers are eminently more practical in their gift giving. The helm has seen many great battles since its creation, but the simple virtue at its core is what has always been remembered.
