Morning Stars are 1-handed crushing weapons which inflict 2d4 points of damage with a speed factor of 7. They require 11 strength to wield them and druids, mages, sorcerers, thieves can't use them. In Baldur's Gate, they are in the spiked weapons proficiency along with flails, which is renamed to Flails & Morning Stars proficiency in the other games. Morning stars are used in close combat, there is no gap between the wielder and the enemy. This item appears in Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. They are commonly used by ogres and they are for sale at most weapon stores.


The morning star is a wooden shaft topped with a metal head made up of a spiked iron sheath. Morning stars have an overall length of about four feet. Some such weapons have a round, oval, or cylindrical shaped head studded with spikes. Extending from most morning star heads, regardless of design, is a long point for thrusting.
