Protection From Energy raises the wizard’s resistances to every energy type, no matter they come from single target or AoE sources.

There’s a lesser version of this spell, which excludes magic damage resistance, nor does it stack with itself.

Effects[]

When the spell is cast, it confers 75% immunity against all energy attacks—such as fire, cold, acid, magic, and electricity, whether from magical or non-magical sources—such as spells, weapons, wands, breath weapons, etc. This excludes any physical attacks and spell-created weapons, such as Enchanted Weapon and Spiritual Hammer. In other words, any physical damage, such as piercing, crushing, or slashing will get through. This effect lasts for the duration of the spell or until dispelled.

Gameplay[]

  • This spell stacks with itself, offering up to 127% resistance to fire, cold, electricity, acid, and magic damage, at which point the above damage types will heal the character by 27% of the damage number they should have caused, but may still interrupt actions such as spellcasting.
  • Won’t protect the creature from effects such as Cloudkill, as its damage type is poison
  • The in-game description is horribly confusing:
    • 75% immunity is misleading. It is a 75% increase (cumulative) to all damage resistances, that are based on energy.
    • Acid is an energy (?!). Poison is not. Ok.
    • It implies spell-created weapons are not affected, however Flame Blade has a fire damage component that is affected by this spell.
