Scimitars are long, curved, single edged blades which can be used by druids, bards and warriors. They have a weight of 4 lbs, a speed factor of 5 and they can inflict 1-8 points of slashing damage. This item appears in Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate II. It sold at many stores which sell weapons, with an excpetion for Baldur's Gate. In Baldur's Gate, this weapon falls in the large sword proficiency, while in the other games, it's in the scimitar & wakazashi's & ninjato's proficiency.

In Baldur's Gate, this weapon is not in the original game, but this was added by the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack. Scimitars are only for sale at Candlekeep Inn and Ulgoth's Beard Inn. In Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Erdane at Durlag's Tower also sells them.

In-game description

The long, curverd, single egded blade is characteristic of both the sabre and the scimitar, even though their origins lie in different part of Faerun. Where the sabre was intented mainly for horsemen, mainly due to its versatility, the scimitar has a heavier oriental influence. The 'shamshir', as it was originally called, is larger, has a greater curve to it, and is tapered to an elongated, sharp point. The effect of this is that it is slightly slower but tends to be more effective and deadly in combat.
