Wands of Fire have two abilities instead of one ability, when compared to other wands. This is one of the more powerful wands, but also more expensive. This wand has the ability to conjure a fireball like the 3rd level spell Fireball and to send a column of flame towards the target, like the 2nd level spell Agannazar's Scorcher. Both spells can be used with a range of 90 ft and for both abilities a save roll vs, wands for half damage can be made. But like all other wands, this has a limited amount of charges and should it run out, it will destroy itself.
This wand appears in the games of Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate EE and Baldur's Gate II. In the game of Baldur's Gate, this wand is sold at the Sorcerous Sundries and by Erdane in the Durlag's Tower area. This wand can only be used by mages and bards. In Baldur's Gate II, it can be found in Rayic Gethras' home and is sold in the red tent in Trademeet. It is also dropped by the lich in the Crooked Crane Inn. It can also be found [Baldur's Gate 1] with Nathan's body in Fisherman's Village area and in the Ulcaster Dungeons.
The fireball ability will inflict 6D6 points of damage and will affect friend and foe alike who are in the 30 feet radius from where the fireball exploded into a wave of flames. All first 1s are treated as 2s. A save roll vs, wands for half damage can be made. The range is 90 ft.
Agannazar's Scorcher abilityEdit
The Agannazar's Scorcher ability sends a column of flame towards the target, inflicting 6D6 +6 points of damage, while the original spell can inflict only 3D6 points of damage. Victims can make a a save roll vs. wands for half damage. This only affects one creature at a time. The range is 90 ft.
Note: The spell description says that the area of effect is 1 creature, but in fact the column of flame inflicts damage to anyone, friend or foe, standing between the caster and the target.
Some of these wands come with a fixed number of charges, and for each charge you can pick either ability. The Wand of Fire that Erdane sells comes with 20 charges of Fireball and 1 charge of Agannazar's Scorcher. When that 1 charge of Agannazar's Scorcher is used, the wand is destroyed, no matter how many charges of Fireball remain.
|“||The wand will cough up forth a huge, burning ball of fire that streaks out to the desired range (to a maximum of 120') and bursts in a fiery, violent blast, just like the fireball spell. The fireball inflicts 6D6 points of damage, but all 1s rolled are counted as 2s. The victim(s) may save vs. wands in order to take only half damage. The second ability of the wand is akin to the spell 'Agannazar's Scorcher' in that a column of flame will streak towards the victim inflicting 6D6 +6 points of damage, with a save vs. wands for half.||”|
