War Hammers are weapons with a hammer head on a short shaft, to keep them wieldable in one hand. They can be used by warriors, bards and clerics. Most war hammer require a strength of 9 points to be used. Hammers can inflict 2-5 points of crushing damage and have a weight of 6 lbs. This weapon is in the war hammer proficiency in all games except Baldur's Gate, where it's in blunt weapons instead. The item appears in Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II and Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. It's sold at most stores selling weapons in all games.

Description[]

Mounted knights cannot effectively use long pole weapons while on horseback, and as a result, many weapons have been fitted with shorter shafts so they may be wielded with just one hand. Maces and flails are two previous examples of this - the war hammer is another. The horseman's war hammer is the descendent of the Lucerne hammer. It is made entirely of steel, with rondels protecting and strengthening the grip. Rondels are small disks of metal, often shaped into decorative designs. The shaft is about 18 inches long.
